Teapot, Earthenware, Underglaze, Private Collection, 16”x11”x3”, 1995. Hand constructed from undulating, textured slabs and assembled. The clay slabs are impressed with a sheet of perforated metal to create the raised dots. After a bisque fire, the raised dots are hand painted with underglazes to create the interlocking design.
Teapot, Earthenware, Underglaze, Private Collection, 14”x10”x3”, 1986. In this series I snapped photos directly from television broadcasts (MTV had just begun airing music videos). Then the images were projected onto a textured slab surface and hand painted, dot by dot. These are precursors to my current work which I can now execute with photo decals instead of laborious hand painting!
